About Art with Coach T
Life Coaching Kids Through Art Education
For a decade I have been building Art with Coach T into an art education approach grounded in child development, behavioral science, and studio-based learning.
I use structured art-making as a vehicle for something bigger than art: building the cognitive and emotional skills children actually need—resilience, self-regulation, problem-solving, and sustained attention.
This is not outcome-driven art instruction. It is process-driven coaching through making.
In practice, children are placed in intentional creative constraints.
Materials don’t always behave the way they expect. Ideas require iteration. Problems have more than one possible solution. And nothing is designed to be “perfect on the first try.”
That’s not accidental. That’s the point.
Because those conditions create real-time opportunities for skill development:
managing frustration without shutting down or avoiding the task
persisting through uncertainty and revision
making decisions without constant external validation
reflecting on behavior during the process (“What did I do when this got hard?”)
building confidence through effort-based success rather than product perfection
For over ten years in the classroom, I’ve functioned less like a traditional art teacher and more like a process coach.
I design constraints on purpose, normalize productive struggle, and guide students through the moment where most kids typically stop.
Not by removing difficulty—but by using the difficulty as an opportunity to practice self-regulation, and teaching them how to sit with the discomfort without breaking down.
For children, this is embodied learning through making—where thinking, feeling, and doing happen at the same time.
My current resources are for teachers. But now that I’ve moved on from the classroom, I am building a library of these same structured creative experiences for you, the parents, to bring home.
I want families to sit together, create, and use art as a way to build both connection and capability at the same time.
Art with Coach T is for families who value long-term development over short-term performance, process over product, and real skill-building over busy work.
Art is the tool.
Growth mindset is the goal.
